The Fraser Valley Region
Over 450,000 year round residents live in six municipalities. In fact more than half of the entire population of British Columbia live in the surrounding areas. And for good reason, the Fraser Valley is chock full of delight and surprises at every turn.
A major selling point is that the area has stunning beauty coupled with affordable housing and a very reasonable cost of living. In fact housing in this area is more affordable than in any part of the region. Cities like Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Surrey, Marple Ridge, Agassiz, Mission, Hope, and Harrison Hot Springs have their own unique charms.
If one was to list the charms of this area they would be at it for a long time. In the spring the air is perfumed with wild berries and flowers as far as the eye can see. Depending on where you look there are alpine meadows, seven mountains, streams and rivers, remote wilderness and the mysterious back country.
While the outdoor charm is a major selling point the Fraser Valley also have lots of culture and history. If you want to see what life was like in the 1800's then spend the day at Fort Langley National Historical site. The Mountain View Wildlife Conservation and Breeding Center Society is dedicated to saving the rare and endangered species of Canadian wildlife. And The Canadian Museum of Flight and Transportation and the Surrey Archives should also be on the must see list.
In addition there are art galleries, country markets, lots of parks, numerous campsites and a vibrant diverse dining scene. However if you feel the need to escape for a weekend, a major selling point is that the Fraser Valley is conveniently located close to the cosmopolitan cites of Vancouver and Seattle. And if you do, it will be a sure bet that it won't be long before the charms of the Fraser Valley will be calling you back home.
